Agenda
1. To receive apologies and reasons for absence

Resolved to approve the Minutes of the meeting at full council meeting on 19th May, 2011
3. To receive declarations of interest in items on the agenda
There were none.
4. Public Forum
One member of the public commented on how the proposed illuminated signage and flagpoles at the former conference centre, Station Road (Barchester development) was not in keeping with the local area and could involve the cutting back of hedges and trees and also felt that the nearby street lamp provided more than enough light to enable the entrance to be located.
5. To consider licence and planning applications received and make recommendations
WD/2011/0854/AI Former Conference Centre, Station Road, Wadhurst TN5 6RY
Erection of 4 No. illuminated signs and 3 No. flagpoles including display of company logos.
The committee objects to the proposed flagpoles at the site entrance and the obtrusive illuminated signs as they are out of context with the existing street scene in the AONB. There would be no objection to a low level sign with minimal lighting sufficient to read the sign, but not the ‘V’ style of signage proposed. If installed, the present signage should be removed.
WD/2011/1067/F Combe Manor, Coombe Lane, Wadhurst TN5 6NU
Change of use. Redundant farm building and domestic garage to self-contained annexe.
The committee supports the proposal if the annexe is tied to the house and is not to be sold off separately at any time in the future. The design and building materials are to be in keeping with the adjacent building.
WD/2011/1074/F 20 Queens Cottages, Wadhurst TN5 6RW
Two storey extension to rear of property.
No objection if the percentage size increase is within limits. Due to the narrowness of the road access must be maintained for emergency vehicles during the building work. Please note that neighbours haven’t received letters regarding the proposed change.
WD/2011/1004/F Silver Birches, Cousley Wood Road, Wadhurst TN5 6DX
Ground floor extension and first floor extension above. Loft conversion with 2 dormer windows to front and 2 rooflights to rear.
No objection.
WD/2011/1104/F 11 Fuller Close, Wadhurst TN5 6HY
Erection of utility room to rear to include loft conversion and alteration to roof over garage.
No objection.
WD/2011/1103/F Hillcrest, Brinkers Lane, Wadhurst TN5 6LS
Roof light on south elevation and window amendments on north and west elevations (amendments to application WD,2011/0269/F for a two storey rear extension).
No objection.
WD/2011/0902/F Tylers Meadow, Castle Walk, Wadhurst TN5 6DB
Extension and replacement garage.
This improvement to the property is supported.
WD/2011/0914/F 2 Marlpit Cottages, The Marlpit, Durgates, Wadhurst TN5 6UW
Ground floor side kitchen extension and porch.
No objection.

No objection.
WD/2011/0963/FA Southfields, Southview Road, Wadhurst TN5 6TP

No objection if there is limited opening of the windows with obscured glass shown in view 5 – south elevation.

Resolved that meetings remain being held at Carillon Cottage fortnightly on Saturdays. The process for potential site visits was discussed and agreement reached that each would be dealt with on an individual basis as required. Any potential changes resulting from the change to electronic transmission of applications would be reviewed when the new system had been delivered.
8. Urgent issues at the discretion of the Chairman for noting
The licence application received on 28th May (In the Night Garden Live showdome) was to be circulated by the clerk and added to the next planning committee agenda.
Wealden DC training offer taken up by four members of the committee.
Agreement reached to add to the agenda of the next meeting of the full council the nomination of three substitute members of the planning committee.
Noted that the clerk and chairman are to draft a letter to the relevant businesses in the High Street regarding illuminated signage after 9 p.m.
Discussions of the comments received at the Annual Parish meeting regarding rumours and the recent article in the Courier about Tesco resulted in agreement that a draft letter to the CEO of Tesco be put to full council. Consideration was also given to possible alternatives for this site.
Also noted was that a process was required to inform the public of planning or development applications. The possibility of using the parish notice board and the website to greater effect was agreed.
