| The Scout Leader is Merlin Beedell - 01892 782 564. We meet every Tuesday evening at the Scout Hut. The hut is used for indoor activities during winter. However when it becomes both dry and light enough we have access to a large field in Whiligh for more boisterous activities! Although 1st Wadhurst is quite a small troop, we do have plenty of opportunities to participate in many fun and varied activities and up to five camps per year. Wadhurst scouts are part of Ashdown District who organise three Survival Challenges every year - in the Ashdown Forest, The Brecon Beacons and Snowdon; these last for 2,3,and 4 days respectively. These Challenges consist of completing team tasks, hiking and navigating and in the Ashdown Challenge, building your own shelter and sleeping in it over night. Also you can only cook on an open fire with no cooking equipment. We go for a two night camp in April, usually on St.George's Day where we are joined by other local troops. On this camp we often build things such as catapults and an assault course. In the first week of the school summer holidays we go on a week long camp. In recent years we have camped by the River Wye and in Suffolk. Activities on the camps have included Archery, Sailing, Canoeing, Abseiling, Rock-Climbing, Orienteering and Swimming. Throughout the year we also go Dry-Slope Skiing and occasionally there are opportunities to go on a sailing or canoeing course on Bewl Water. All of these camps and other activities are greatly enjoyed by all the Scouts who participate in them.

First Wadhurst Guides is open to girls between 10 and 16 - regardless of race,
faith or personal circumstance
Guides are individuals - and it is not The Guide Association's aim to make them conform to a standard mould. Each girl has her own talents, skills and interests - unique to her. Guiding challenges her to use and extend these abilities in a positive way. The scope and flexibility of the programme, designed to meet the needs of each girl, reflect this emphasis on personal achievement. Guiding is about doing one's best, not about meeting set targets in a strict time limit. As Baden-Powell said, 'The only standard that counts is the amount of effort on the part of the individual.'
Leaders are: Angela Bailey [01892] 782445, Glynis Tucker [01892] 890335 or Penny Bones [01892] 783896
Why not come along one evening and see what we are up to
Wadhurst Rangers: We have just come to the end of our first year as a group, having formed in January 2003.For those of you who don't know who or what Rangers are, we are the Senior Section of Guiding, catering for girls from 14-25 years old. Our activities are a lot different from those of Guides; with the motto 'Look Wider', Rangers are encouraged to organise themselves, and to open their minds and lives to new thoughts and activities. We meet at Carillon Cottage every other Tuesday from 7.30-9.30 pm. So far this year we have had talks from Leslie on living with Breast Cancer, Hillary on Marathon Running, Sonia on Looking After Your Skin, Ruth on Living in Spain, Jenny on Running a Ski Chalet, Jill on Being a Flight Attendant, Rae on Homeopathy and Ann on Rally Driving. Many thank to all those ladies who gave up their time to talk to the Rangers. We have also done a lot of other activities - ranging from joining the Race for Life at Hastings (where we raised over £600 in sponsorship for Breast Cancer Research) to camping at Holbeam Wood Farm and, more recently, rock and boulder climbing at Evolution near Crowborough. Not everything is physical! We have also made cakes, done assorted crafts, sold handmade Christmas cards to raise money, and taken part in the Charter Day celebrations by decorating and manning the Scarecrow float for the Rotary Club. If you are interested in becoming a Ranger, please contact Penny on 01892-785752, and if you are an adult who is interested in becoming a Guider, please also contact me!
