Notes of an Environment Meeting held on 19 Jan 2012

Present:  Ann Cook, Ian Spencer, Rod Rigby, Margot Yeo,  David Maynard, Bridget Gelling, Janet Hall
Apologies:  Peggy Langdown

Items Discussed
The Tidy Up Team is now an established group.  They have planted all the bulbs given to them last season and are to ask for more in the News & Views.  They will maintain the area at Cross Lane which was their focus last year but are looking for new areas to clear.
Suggestions were footpath between Farthing Hall and Pickforde Lane, verge near the Vicarage (to check with Frankie if this is the responsibility of ESCC or the vicar or who) or Rosemary Lane.  Other suggestions welcome.
The Square  The group thought they should be involved in the design aspects of the Square where decisions about them  impacted on the environment, for example materials used, layout and irrigation for tubs, selection and placement of trees etc.    David has researched solar panels to generate power for a water feature and feels installation of panels on the pump house (bus shelter) is perfectly feasible technically and for a reasonable cost, especially if the shelter was extended as part of the plan.
Farthing Hill   We have now completed all research on the area and will move to phase 1, the building of a walkway over the stream to ensure the footpath is more accessible.  Ann informed the group that the school children had also mentioned that they wanted this done.  Ann has offered to apply for grants through the Warr fund or sustainable grant from HWAONB.  She has the guidance provided by the environment agency and the plans from Matt Pitt and will get estimates from her contacts.
Reusable Bags   We have not done much more to find grants but Liz will approach Marie Kennedy, Rother DC  for advice.  **She has since spoken to her and Marie recommends applying to the jubilee fund, www.rother.gov.uk/communitygrantscheme .  To discuss with Pam Francis, WI, and Sharon Hall Shipp.  We will try and have them ready for jubilee.
Advartex have provided a quote but it is more expensive for less attractive bags than the ones we have had from elsewhere.
Future of the group.   The purpose and objectives of the group were discussed and all confirmed they felt it was important to meet two or three times per year to discuss matters as they arose.  A contribution to the village plan is the next priority.  The importance of informing households about the availability of Warm Front Grants and sources for home energy saving was discussed.
AOB   Rod mentioned his concern about plans for growth of the Bewl  Leisure Centre site which is outside the Parish but any large development will have an impact on local enjoyment. To keep the group and the Parish Council informed.
