WADHURST FOOTPATHS SOCIETY - AGM
20 November 2008, St George's Hall, 19:30
The society's AGM will be brief and followed by film and a talk by Nancy Mandera about her STAY IN LADAKH
.
Ladakh is a wild mountainous region in the West Himalayas bordered by Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tibet. Villages are isolated with no electricity, no cars and no mobile phones. Nancy went to live with a family in one of these villages for a month in 2007 and found that even in extreme conditions and with no advanced technology Ladakhis have built strong communities with a self sustaining culture. Nancy's talk will describe her experiences and the lifestyle in this small state known as "Little Tibet".
This is a fascinating talk with insights into what, to us, is a primitive way of life but which Nancy found very moving and humbling.
Everyone is welcome. There is no charge

The society was founded in 1974 in order to ensure that the footpaths in the parish are kept open and waymarked, in cooperation with the landowners. It holds an annual general meeting in November at which there is a visiting speaker to talk about a country or local topic. A newsletter is published twice a year which gives details of the society's activities.
The society publishes a booklet "Walks around Wadhurst" describing a range of circular walks in the area around the village. This has recently been completely revised and updated, with two additional walks bringing the total to 17, and with suggestions for linking the walks to make longer outings.
The revised booklet is now on sale at Barnett's bookshop, price £3.
Guided Walks take place on the last Sunday of the month except December. We meet at 14:00 in the car park in Washwell Lane, behind One Stop. The walks are usually about 4 miles in length and last about 2 ¼ hours. Visitors are welcome.
The guided walks and the Walks Around Wadhurst booklet are both an excellent way of getting to know the paths better if you are not familiar with them.
An old 'Stan Cosham waymark' - still works!
